If this feels familiar
From Amsterdam to Zanzibar, your patterns tend to travel with you.
Maybe life looks pretty good from the outside, yet you find yourself overthinking, putting too much pressure on yourself, struggling to switch off, or getting stuck in the same patterns in relationships. You might understand yourself pretty well, but knowing where something comes from doesn’t always make it easier to change.
Living abroad can add another layer. Building a life somewhere new can be exciting and exactly what you wanted, while also bringing loneliness, cultural differences, stress, changing relationships or questions about where you belong.
But, your struggles don’t have to be “expat-related” to work with me. I simply work with many internationals, and for those who do live abroad, it can be helpful to talk to someone who understands that context from personal experience too.
You don’t have to wait until things get worse to start working on them.
I offer online therapy in English and Dutch. There is no waiting list, so you can start within days.

Meet your therapist
I'm Sophie Bezemer, a Dutch-trained psychologist helping people feel at home in their lives, wherever they are in the world.
I grew up in the Netherlands, lived in Southeast Asia, and now call Mexico City home. I've moved countries, solo traveled, and built a life from scratch more than once. I know how exciting life abroad can be, but also how lonely, overwhelming, or disorienting it can feel beneath the surface.
My approach is warm, practical, and evidence-based. I integrate CBT, ACT, attachment theory, schema therapy, and mindfulness, depending on your goals and what fits you best. I want you to leave each session not only feeling understood, but with clear insights and practical tools you can apply in everyday life. We don't just talk about what's happening. We work together to create meaningful, lasting change.
Therapy with me is a space where you can be completely honest. We'll explore difficult emotions, challenge old patterns, celebrate progress, and sometimes even laugh together. Growth doesn't have to happen in a room that feels heavy all the time.
Just because you can do it alone doesn't mean you have to. Asking for help is the first step toward feeling like yourself again.

From over-functioning to grounded
Life abroad reset (4-week program)
You moved abroad for more freedom. Now you're mostly getting through the days, and the overthinking has turned into a full-time job.
The patterns you thought you left behind made the move with you. That's not a failure, it's useful information. In four weeks, we look at what keeps pulling you back into the same loops and build a way forward that fits your actual life abroad.
What's included
4 weekly sessions (50 min): Each session builds on the last, so progress carries over instead of starting from zero every time.
A personal plan: Built around your patterns, triggers and goals. You'll know what to do on a hard Tuesday, not just what you understood in a session.
Tools that fit you: Exercises drawn from what comes up in your sessions, not generic tips that could apply to anyone.
Priority booking: First pick of session times, so the weekly rhythm holds even with work, travel or time zone differences.
What to expect
Not a completely different person in a month. You'll understand yourself better, feel steadier, and leave with something concrete to keep using.
I take a limited number of program clients at a time, so each person gets proper attention.
